A 1.62‐W passively Q‐switch Tm<sup>3+</sup>‐doped laser with a Bi<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub>Se saturable absorber

Abstract A saturable absorber based on a novel two‐dimensional (2D) material Bi 2 O Se was placed in resonator with an overall longest diameter of 31 mm to achieve efficient operation passively Q‐switched (PQS) Tm:YAP laser for the first time. In PQS mode, 1.62‐W average output power pulse width 1.24 µs and repetition frequency 112.1 kHz achieved at pump 22.2 W, corresponding peak 11.66 W. As 2D material, results show potential as photomodulator µm spectral range.
